The
great success obtained in Don Giovanni/Donna Anna (in Valencia), Le
nozze di Figaro/Susanna (Opéra de Marseille, Stadttheater Bern), Die
Zauberflöte/Pamina (Gran Teatre del Liceu, Barcelona), Il buon marito (Schwetzingen
Festival), Orfeo ed Euridice (Edinburgh Festival), as well as her much
acclaimed performance at the Palau de les Arts Valencia opening concert,
are good warrant to the soundness of Isabel Monar’s brilliant career.
Pupil
of Ana Luisa Chova, she graduated with honours (she was granted the
prize Premio Extraordinario Fin de Carrera), and made her debut at the
Teatre Principal in Valencia, her hometown. Devoted both to opera and
concert, highlights have been the roles performed in Turandot
(Valencia); José de Nebra’s Iphigenia en Tracia (New York and Boston);
Fidelio (Nancy, Santiago and Barcelona); La púrpura de la rosa/The blood
of the rose, libretto by Pedro Calderón de la Barca, music by Tomás de
Torrejón y Velasco (Geneva, Madrid and México DF); Così fan tutte
(Lausanne, Madrid, La Coruña and Padova); Arabella, with the Opera North
(Leeds); L’elisir d’amore and Idomeneo (Bern); in the Neujahr-Konzert
with the Hamburger Symphoniker and M. A. Gómez-Martínez, or in concerts
such as those by J. Rodrigo, in Chicago, and Il barbiere di Siviglia, in
the Peralada Festival.
She has
also been widely acclaimed for her interpretations in Purcell’s Dido and
Eneas (Marseille) and in Mozart’s Il re pastore, Il sogno di Scipione
(Vienna) and in the unfinished opera Zaide (Gmunden Festival, Düsseldorf
and at the renowned Concertgebouw Amsterdam). Of the latest, a super
audio CD has been recorded.
Recently, she has sung the main role in Haendel’s Radamisto with the
Wiener Akademie orchestra and she sang the same main role in Los
Angeles.
Among
other recordings of her discography, stand out the performances in the
monographic albums of the works by Frederic Mompou, Eduard Toldrà and
Vicent Asencio.
Very
recent and future engagements include a recital at Palau de les Arts in
Valencia, Mahler 8th with Orquesta Nacional de Madrid/OCNE under Maestro
Josep Pons, “Marzelline” by Beethoven´s Leonore at Teatro Real in
Madrid under Maestro Ivor Bolton and concerts with Orquestra Simfònica
de Barcelona under Christian Zacharias. |
